Science Farms One
Science Farms One is our primary Science Farms location.
Located just north of The Woodlands, Texas, forty miles outside Houston, Science Farms One is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. The property is set in over one acre of dense woods, making it the perfect location for citizen scientists to embark upon conservation, wildlife, horticultural and ecology projects.
Science Farms One is the home to our eco-friendly vegetable garden. We are utilizing a number of different green concepts within our vegetable garden to help insure we reduce our carbon footprints. By recycling household waste materials, using organic farming methods, composting and developing a natural water irrigation system, we not only hope that the vegetable garden can assist Science Farms One to become self sufficient, but also produce great harvests for years to come.
We are also looking to build eco-friendly lab pods within our grounds. Our lab pods will be constructed of organic materials and will utilize green energy to function. Our goal is to construct lab pods which complement our natural environment, while providing a safe and functional area for scientific research.
Due to our setting, most projects undertaken at Science Farms One will focus on our local environment, green energy and ecology. We do, however, have areas established within the main homestead to allow for neuroscience research and computer sciences.
Science Farms One is also our main location for our creativity lab. We plan to utilize recyclable materials to create art work and develop creativity. Our creativity lab will also be home to our extraction labs, whereby we utilize extraction methods for plants and herbs grown on our grounds. We aim to use this process to help us create natural soaps, body washes and other Farms made products in order to raise funds for our projects.
As Science Farms One is located within wooded areas, we have very clear views of the night sky. This makes Science Farms One a great location to embark on astronomy research. We currently have one scientific telescope available for citizen scientists to use, at request. We hope to be able to purchase more in the near future. We will be arranging astronomy research events throughout the year, and aim to make these as fun as possible.
Currently, Science Farms One is conducting research into the effect of environmental changes on our local ecosystem. Recently, a housing development was started on the wetlands which once backed our property. We are looking to evaluate the changes in local flora, fauna and wildlife as a direct effect of the building project.
A visit to Science Farms One can guarantee that you will run into our local woodland and wetland wildlife. We have so far recorded the regular presence of the following wildlife on our property: Opposums (Didelphimorphia), Raccons (Procyon lotor), Whooping Cranes (Grus americana), Wild Rabbits, Common Garter Snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis), Hawks, Wood Peckers, Owls and Snapping Turtles (Chelydridae). We also have a large number of dragonflies, butterflies and other interesting insects some may wish to document.
